A charming pair of turned stools dating to the Victorian period, each with a solid elm seat cut from a single block, raised on four turned and splayed legs joined by a turned X-form stretcher. The elm has developed a rich, dark patina over the years of use, with good honest wear to the seats consistent with age. Well-made examples of traditional country stool construction, sturdy and equally suited to practical use or as decorative accent pieces. Sold as a pair.
We have cleaned and waxed both stools and they are both in excellent antique condition, with a fantastic patina throughout. There is a chip to one of the legs at the base on each stool, one large than the other. This does not affect use and has clearly happened many years ago. Some other minor scuffs and dents throughout all of which adds character. Please see images.
Each stool measures 27cm diameter at the seat and 50cm tall. The legs splay out further than the diameter of the seat at 13.5cm.
